ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate the application value of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) in differential diagnosis of common liver lipid-containing tumors.Materials and Methods Sixty patients with pathologically confirmed liver lipid-containing tumors from January 2011 to August 2015 were retrospectively analyzed, including 25 cases ofhepatocellular carcinoma (HCC),20 cases of hepatic adenoma (HA) and 15 cases of hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML).Apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value and ratio of ADCtumor/ADCliver (rADC) of tumors were respectively measured.Routine MRI findings were analyzed. Results The MRI findings of these three common liver lipid-containing tumors were with their own characteristics. For HCC,HA and HAML,the average ADC value was (1.225±0.221)×10-3 mm2/s,(1.318±0.212)×10-3 mm2/s and (1.317±0.297)×103 mm2/s,respectively,(b=800 s/mm2);the average rADC value was 1.004± 0.151,0.984 ± 0.146 and 1.027±0.223,respectively.There was no significant difference in ADC and rADC among these three tumors (P>0.05).Conclusion ADC and rADC had no differential diagnosis value in common liver lipid-containing tumors.Routine MRI signals and enhanced imaging features are the main diagnostic basis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the expression of Twist protein in the colorectal cancer (CRC) and its relationship between clinicopathological factors and prognosis of patients. Methods The clinical data of 45 patients with colorectal cancer who were admitted to the First People's Hospital of Shunde from June 2005 to September 2005 were retrospectively analyzed. The colorectal tissue specimens from surgical resection were collected. The expressions of Twist protein in the cancer and paracarcinoma tissues were examined by the immunohistochemistry, and their relationship with clinicopathological factors and prognosis of patients was analyzed.Patients were followed up by outpatient examination and telephone interview until September 2013.The count data were analyzed using the chi-square test and Fisher exact probability. The survival curve was generated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival analysis was conducted using the Log-rank test. The prognosis factors were analyzed by the COX univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. Results The expression of Twist protein in CRC was predominantly detected in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. The positive expression rates of Twist protein in the CRC and paracarcinoma tissues were 62.2% (28/45) and 20.0% (9/45),respectively,with a significant difference (x2 =18.383,P <0.05).The positive expression rates of Twist protein were 42.1% in patients with Ⅰ-Ⅱ stage of CRC and 76.9% in patients with Ⅲ-Ⅳ stage of CRC.The positive expression rates of Twist protein were 41.7%in patients with N0 stage of CRC and 85.7% in patients with N1-N2 stage of CRC.The expression of Twist protein in patients with CRC was however associated with the TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (x2=5.662,9.244,P < 0.05).A total of 45 patients were followed up for 10-96 months (median,54 months). The median survival time and 5-year cumulative survival rate in 45 patients with positive expression of Twist protein were 44 months and 10.7%,which were compared with 69 months and 82.4% in 45 patients with negative expression of Twist protein, with a statical significance in the survival (x2 =26.147,P < 0.05).The results of univariate analysis showed that the expression of Twist protein was an related factor affecting the prognosis of patients [HR =8.669,95% confidence interval (CI):2.959-25.390,P <0.05].The results of multivariate analysis showed that the positive expression of Twist protein was an independent risk factor affecting the prognosis of patients (HR =5.059,95 % CI:2.888-8.863,P < 0.05).Conclusiors The increasing expression of Twist protein in the CRC is positively correlated with the occurrence and development of CRC.The positive expression of Twist protein is an independent risk factor affecting the prognosis of patients with CRC.

ABSTRACT

The genus Rhodococcus is of considerable interest in recent years, stemming from their diverse applications in biodegradation, bioremediation, biotransformation and biosurfactant. Using Nocardia/Rhodococcus-Escherichia coli shuttle plasmid pNV18.1 as the backbone vector, we tested the driven efficiency of promoters Ptac and PlacZ of E. coli and Pami-1/Pami-2 of R. ruber in host R. rhodochrous ATCC 33278 by overexpression of nitrile hydratase. Results showed that the specific activity of nitrile hydratase per dry cell weight in engineered Rhodococcus strains driven by Ptac, Pami-1, Pami-2 and PlacZ was 7.5, 6.3, 5.3 and 1.8 times of that in the wild, respectively. It indicated that these promoters could be well recognized by RNA polymerase of Rhodococcus. We further expressed the beta-galactosidase reporter gene (lacZ) in R. ruber driven by promoter PlacZ. Results indicated that lacZ was an appropriate reporter gene for genetic or metabolic engineering research of Rhodococcus.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of health education on the blood glucose controlling target in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods 598 cases of patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into the control group (given conventional treat- ment and medication guide) and the intervention group (besides the above-mentioned treatment, also given diabetes health management program including the systemic health education and promotion, and with stress on behavioral, psychological, dietary intervention) and observed for 7 months. Results After 7 months intervention, there were differences in the levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, fasting plasma glucose and 2h postprandial blood glucose between two groups (P

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the diagnosis and treatment for tuberculosis of the breast. Methods Retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 78 patients with tuberculosis of the breast treated in our hospital in the past 21 years was made. Results The incidence of tuberculosis of the breast has been increasing year by year, peasants of remote mountain areas and civilian workers in the cities were the high affected groups.Misdiagnosis rate was as high as 62.9 %.Operation combined with other therapies, and selection of opportune time for operation can reduce the extent of resection, and satisfy the demands of young female patients for high quality of life. Conclusions Clinical doctors should improve their recognition of tuberculosis of the breast, increase the rate of correct diagnosis, and avoid missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis, especially misdiagnosis of tuberculosis for breast cancer, which can cause the patients to undergo unnecessary pain and economic burden.
